I’ve always quite liked Louis Wain’s paintings and models of cats. They are, I think, the forerunners of a lot of later cat cartoons and art that we see today.
It has been said that Wain’s obsession with cats, after the death of his wife, led to or contributed to his madness. I have no idea if that is the case, or not. Though, it does worry me from time to time that my mind might go the same way.
If you would like to explore Wain’s paintings a little, see this Cornell University student’s research project titled “Schizophrenia, Aging and Art” profiles Louis Wain, an early 20th century artist who began to suffer from schizophrenia late in life.
