jl scott of iCop wrote today about a surprising result that sets a very useful precedent for legitimate email senders and marketers.
You might expect email marketers to complain (loudly and bitterly) about their email being erroneously spam filtered, but this is a much more important result because a proposed settlement has been reached in two class action proceedings brought by Verzion subscribers (i.e. the recipients) who didn’t like Verzion filtering their email and preventing legitimate emails from getting to them.
This restores common sense on the fundamental issue that only one person is able to determine what is and what is not a “legitimate and wanted” email - and that is and can only be the recipient.
Keep telling your subscribers and customers to complain to their ISP’s if your emails don’t get through to them and refer them to this site about the settlement, if they don’t think it is worth it because they have a bad ISP who does not want to do what they, the customer, asks.
BTW, if you are or were a Verzion customer yourself, on the relevant dates, you are included, “All business and residential customers of Verizon FiOS, DSL, and dial-up Internet services in the United States at any time from October 1, 2004 to May 31, 2005, who had use of one or more email accounts on the Verizon.net email platform.”
