All you need are some cats and some boxes for instant mischief:

This article will give you great ideas on how you can make it even more fun.
While I was reading it, I was thinking how much more I could do to entertain this bunch of monkeys. Usually, when I do my grocery shopping at our local store, they ask if I want boxes or bags and I always take the boxes, specifically to give to the cats to play with for a while - until they rip them to shreds out of sheer boredom.
Once I am fed up with tripping over the box or sweeping up the shreddings, it gets tossed and, it never occurred to me to do more than that. But it struck me that I could make a giant cats’ “dolls house” out of several boxes, that might keep them amused for hours on rainy days or other days when they have to stay indoors.
Heck, if I am really lucky, I might even get some of my bed back occasionally.
We have the space for it, but it does need to be attractive enough to be in rooms we use regularly. For that reason and the fact that such apparatus are not sold here, I didn’t want one of those ugly carpet and sisal cat playground on a stick things.
Irregular works best for cats and irregular is what you get with assorted boxes.
Then I had the flash of inspiration. The thing I like best in all the Harry Potter films is The Burrow, the magical, eccentric, irregular house belonging to the Weasley family, first featured in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
(My dad did have a Ford Anglia Deluxe - same blue with a white stripe - exactly like the one in that film when I was a kid. Well, OK, ours didn’t fly.)
I would love to live in a house like that. Doubt I ever will, mind you, but my cats might if I put my mind, a bit of duct tape and splash of paint into the project. Though, like the original, bet it would remain standing only by magic.
