We all have our own system for dealing with email and it doesn’t take long, especially once you have a website, to end up with rather a lot of it to manage. This means that far more than simple spam filtering is called for if we hope to work efficiently or retain our sanity.
Gmail and I seem to agree pretty closely over what is spam and what isn’t, so I’ve found it to be the best and easiest to use, because I don’t need to sort spam, it never comes to my inbox and a quick glance confirms that I all I need to do it delete it wholesale.
The rest of my mail, I also sort with filters to label, file, save, or otherwise deal with as much as possible of it, automatically.
What made me laugh was Gina Trapani’s “Bozo Filter“.
Yeah, I use exactly the same principle too for those lists you can’t get off, other pests and so forth. The trash fills, but my inbox doesn’t.
That is one filter I would definitely call essential!
