Whilst on the subject of things to fix on your website, John Alexander of Search Engine Workshops recently sent me a link to this excellent straight-talking article, by Jakob Nielson, which lists the Top Three Design Priorities when designing for your customers. Some people criticize Nielson, but I love his approach. I especially like the way he explains, plainly “why useless, fancy stuff gets promoted.”

He says that, “It’s tempting to work on what’s hot, but to make money, focus on the basics that customers value.” And, at the end of the day, “Clear content, simple navigation, and answers to customer questions have the biggest impact on business value. Advanced technology matters much less.”
