Andy Williams in his EzSEO Newsletter # 144, points to this post by Google Engineer, Matt Cutts, detailing a number of site reviews he undertook at the 2006 Pubcon in Vegas. It’s a very enlightening and interesting read, which as Andy says, “gives you some clues as to what Google really want.”

Matt, in turn, points to this witty post, which covers some of the basic things you want to fix first, whether you are going to be scrutinized by a search engineer or not - but probably a good way to think about it is to imagine that you will be.

That way you can remove “anything here that you do not want shown on a projector for 2000 people to see” and avoid generating “belly laughs from the audience.”
