(Above: random artificial tree for illustration purposes only: The invention is confined to paper so far.)
It kinda makes the mind boggle, but apparently, that is the claim of a scientist in New York who believes he has found a method to put the brakes on climate change.
Inspired by a project his daughter presented for a science class in school, professor in geophysics, Klaus Lackner, designed a synthetic tree that has the capacity - equal to that of the leaves on real trees - to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
The only part that sounds a bit dodgy to me is that the carbon dioxide would be stored underground “in a secure and permanent manner” (how secure is anything these days?), but hey it’s the start of an idea.
