The Death of Online Business

Yes, my headline is sarcastically poking fun at all the “Death of …” reports we’ve seen in recent internet marketing history, however, the subject matter of this post is deadly serious with news that:

In Australia, the Federal Government is proposing legislation that will in effect censor online publishers, including bloggers by forcing all online content to be classified, an expensive and long process.

In France the Government has banned citizens taking pictures of events unless they are approved by the Government, and that further French based news sites will be subject to certification by the Government, potentially prohibiting the free speech of bloggers in France.

And, you just know that other countries will follow suit in their misguided attempts to wrest control back from the people.

This is worrying on many levels, but it’s particularly worrying to me from the point of view that, because of my location and state of my health, I have absolutely no means of generating any income at all, other than via the internet. But also, for those very same reasons, I am simply not able to generate enough to cover “expensive and long process(es).” And, I am very sure that the same applies to many of you working from home.

That freedoms are being taken is not in dispute, but is it too late?
