It’s Commonwealth Day?

Tuesday, March 13, 2007 | Permalink |

Well it was. Did you know know that Monday was Commonwealth Day?

Yes, like me, you are probably asking, what Commonwealth? Once upon a time it was an Empire (and a bloody pretentious one at that).

Londonist seems to have a handle on it, thank goodness, redefining it as ‘Britain’s grasping at straws oh bugger the empire’s gone tits up club’.

They point to the BBC item on the Queen’s speech for the occasion, which says, “The Queen will focus on the benefits of the Commonwealth, which she sees as being a collection of villages.”

No, really, I mean, can one get any further from reality?

It’s Commonwealth Day?
