This really does give whole new meaning to the term “playing with your food”, doesn’t it?
I do love this concept of Bento, since I discovered it on the internet, because we do eat with our eyes first and I think something that looks fun also makes eating fun and, for some people eating alone, all the fun is missing.
The problem is that this often causes people to skip meals, or eat unhealthy things. Yet, most of us just slap food on a plate any old how and leave the pretty presentation stuff to the fancy restaurants.
Maybe we should reexamine that “well, nobody’s going to see it” attitude and start to have some fun with our food again, whether it’s the packed lunch you take to the office or just what you prepare to eat at home.
If you think it’s childish (I’d prefer to think childlike), you can always resort to “well, nobody’s going to see it” and enjoy yourself anyway!

I like it. I know I’m guilty of throwing something together when it’s “just me”. Despit the fact that when I *do* take the time (because I want a picture for my blog) to make it pretty — I enjoy the process AND the product much more.
Well, there’s a genuine “therapeutic” reason for a blog, if ever there was one. OK, all single cooks need to blog what they eat daily, or at least pretend it’s going to be seen there.
