We interrupt our scheduled service to bring you this from the Guardian:
“Pet owners were worried Saturday that the pet food in their cupboards could be deadly after millions of containers of dog and cat food sold at major retailers across North America were recalled.
Menu Foods, the Ontario-based company that produced the pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold under 48 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.
An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said.”
Animal Owners Panic Over Pet Food Recall
This relates to “cuts and gravy” style cat food (what we call tinned food) and all mine eat dry food, thank goodness. OK, I’m not in North America either, but 1) ya never know where the darn stuff comes from here and 2) an announcement could follow later, saying, oops, yes we exported this too, so (also having had two with urinary/kidney problems recently, one of whom died) I tend to take notice whatever.

Sorry your pet died. I found this strange that one company made food for so many brands. I wonder how much they changed the food from brand to brand or was it all just the same with a higher price for certain brands? I don’t have an animal right now but my son does. I think he feeds the dog dry too. Hope that’s okay.
Thanks Sheila, miss the little fella, but in this case I can be reasonably happy that he had as good as life as possible while he was here and, at least, is no longer suffering.
Yes, it strikes me as strange too and it seems logical that flavor choices and pretty packaging are things that only matter to humans, because we’re the ones that buy the stuff. You are right, they could put the very same food under all those brands, each of which has it’s own particular market, depending on the taste (and pocket) of the pet owner.
