My Cat Clicked On My AdSense Ads

Every blog should have a weekly cat photo, right? :) Sabahan.com writes, “Like all self-respecting and responsible AdSense publishers, I am careful not to click on my own AdSense ads. […] But what happens if my cat clicks on my AdSense ad? He likes to sleep on the table where I am working and sometimes do what some cats usually do – play with the mouse and keyboard. Will Google accept my explanation if I say my cat clicked on my AdSense ads?

Well, I reckon they won’t, because will merely show up as being a click from your computer/IP. Ergo, you dunnit, whether it was you, your kids or the household moggie. The excuse that the cat may have been genuinely interested in the ad is gonna be a little thin too!

Sorry to be boring, but in this case, it’s better to be careful:

* Don’t leave unattended computers with the browser open at your own site with AdSense ads on. Easier said than done, I guess.

* Push keyboards away under the desk and feed cats well to make sure that the cat can’t fit in the slot with the pull out tray.

* Take care where the fat cat bums land when they inevitably and constantly get on your lap between you and your work.

Oh, yes, I have learned by experience with, currently, four cats.

So far, I’ve reduced their activities to the occasional bum on the space bar and they have a tendency to make pages scroll, so I lose my place. Walking across the desk in front of me and parking their behinds on the mousepad, is also another favorite when they decide it’s mealtime. I’d like a wireless mouse, but I’m afraid it would be hijacked and, I’ll admit that I’d be really worried about their abilities to trash a laptop.

Or, as one commenter suggested, “To protect against cat-click fraud, I believe that Google needs to acquire cat-detector technology from PawSense.” (PawSense is a software utility that helps protect your computer from cats. It quickly detects and blocks cat typing, and also helps train your cat to stay off the computer keyboard.)
