Just when you think you’ve seen everything for pets, along comes another crazy (in my humble opinion) idea: drinking glasses for pets.
Normally, I would “let sleeping dogs lie” (pun intended) and not comment on things that I don’t like - you know, mother always said, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything - but this, I think is irresponsible. There will, undoubtedly, be the danger that some people will assume this infers animals can or should drink alcohol. Indeed, the site selling them merely adds a PS saying that “Alcohol may not be suitable for dogs.”
What do they mean, may not?! Alcohol is toxic for dogs. It can cause kidney damage, heart arrhythmias, seizures and tremors and, even kill them.
See Alcohol Poisoning in Pets for more details.
Cats should not be encouraged to drink either. From Google Answers:
“According to Chicagoland Tails, who cite the Columbia Animal Hospital, alcohol is highly toxic to cats. A tablespoon of whiskey can kill a cat, while just two teaspoons can put the poor thing into a coma. Beer, while a bit lower in alcohol content, is just as toxic, even though it would require a slightly larger quantity.”
Sure, the glass can be used for water, but tilted over or not, anyone who actually has a pet, knows that a boisterous dog or any cat I’ve ever known is going to have that over and broken within 2 minutes of it coming out of the packaging. They might be happy to play with the box, mind you.
Personally, at a hefty £45 ($89), I reckon these things are just aimed at parting those with more money than sense from some of the former.
