Amazon has often been criticized for not paying out a fat lot to associates, but though I hardly make a fortune with them, the fact is that a growing trickle of orders appear in my account each month.
There are millions of products to promote, most people trust Amazon enough to buy from them online (and I do myself) and, only $5 worth of refunds in over 5 years on my account has to be a good record.
Some of the items that visitors order are things that I specifically blog about or make a relevant feature in sidebars, or just ads on my various blogs. Other items people buy appear to have nothing to do with any of the niche topics I cover, so these must be products that people were looking for themselves, but they visited Amazon via my links.
Now, this, you can apply to promoting just about anything, but it’s also a fact that I didn’t earn a red cent with Amazon until I started publishing blogs and proactively promoting relevant products on them.
However, the value of orders and commissions has been significantly increasing in recent quarters. Why? For much the same reasons as Darren Rowse gives; more links, more exposure and simply, time.
