Taste that tangy, zestful sodium benzoate!

Sunday, May 27, 2007 | Permalink |

Interesting post from Other Men’s Flowers blog, discusses the fact that frozen foods are a better alternative to “the chilled prepared dishes colourfully packaged and temptingly displayed in supermarkets”, because, though the latter look closer to fresh food and do lull you into a false sense of their superiority, they clock up a huge array of “science-lab additions”, necessary to increase their shelf life.

The other interesting thing in their post is that they point to a British company, www.cookfood.net, who produce meals commercially, “based on the principle that it is possible to freeze dishes made using only the ingredients and methods one would use at home.”

Naturally, I agree, being one of the “many of us [who] sometimes freeze our own home-made dishes” - well, quite a lot really, since I find it neither economical, nor desirable to attempt cooking one portion at a time.

Now I feel even more righteous and healthy doing so! :)

If you live in the UK, you can order their products, including Meals for One, online and have them delivered, too. If you don’t live in the UK, their website is still a place to look for ideas, because if they can freeze it so can you!
