For some time, my local cake shop has been selling ready-made deserts - often these are layers of mouse, with some sort of crumble base and maybe a fruit topping - served in small glasses and, when you’ve succumbed to the temptation enough times, you end up with quite a nice little collection of containers!
Little did I know that they were being trendy.
Eric at Paris Daily Photo writes, “You want to know what the latest food trend is in Paris at the moment? Here it is! It called a Verrine - after Verre (glass).” He shows one with layers of guacamole, goat cheese mousse and couscous. “It is generally served as a starter and/or for desert when sweet”, he adds.
It just struck me that - apart from looking so cute and appetizing - it would be a very simple matter to prepare a quantity of whatever takes your fancy (starters or deserts), put them into glasses and line them up in the fridge.
Depends how well the food you have chosen will keep, of course, but it gives you lots of little portions for one that you can then eat at your leisure.
