The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Effective Adsense Link Units Optimization

Friday, June 22, 2007 | Permalink |

Whenever Maki writes an ultimate guide to anything, you know that is no hype and that it is, exactly as advertised. This time, on the back of Google’s recent announcement that you can now use up to three ad link units per page, she has written a guide to optimization and placement of these links.

Her findings agree with mine that the horizontal links, just below a header are the ones that perform best, always remembering that if you do put them in that position and you have other navigational links near it, you need to avoid the risk of generating accidental clicks. As their example shows, for instance, don’t use drop downs in you navigation that appears above any Adsense ads or links.

As ever, Maki makes the post an entirely balanced view by explaining various other pitfalls with link units.
