Effective advertising strategy using StumbleUpon

Tuesday, July 3, 2007 | Permalink |

Ades published a comprehensive post on Sunday detailing how to use StumbleUpon’s paid advertising (a mere 0.05 cents) to generate traffic.

A few of my posts from my various blogs have been Stumbled by readers in the past and the additional traffic can arrive in really impressive numbers, so although I have not yet used their paid service, I have absolutely no reason to doubt the effectiveness of the strategy he outlines.

As Ades stresses, “This strategy works only on sites that have good content, something that people will love (usually people love free stuff). It will also work on specific pages of your blog or site, that specific page, of course, should be something spectacular. Maybe you have a highly popular blog post, if that is the case, you can promote that page.”

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder here - one of the posts I suddenly got hundreds of visitors to was to a cat photo, that wasn’t particularly great, I felt, compared to others and there was little accompanying text to make it stand out - in other words, it’s hard to tell what other people might like, so I’d definitely agree that the place to start is with a page you have that has already proved popular with traffic from some other source.
