Link-O-Rama: Catching up on the week

Well, I might be able to catch up on the links that looked interesting or useful this week. What I doubt is I’ll ever catch up in general. Meanwhile enjoy:

Peter Twist’s Radio Show
My friend (I do mean that too) Peter Twist, will shortly restart his Radio Shows. He’s also going to be recommence his “Internet Intelligence Report”, so you may wish to make sure you are on the list by going to http://www.MasterMindLounge.com

FatFreeCart
Robin, the developer of FatFreeCart’s professional big brother, E-junkie shopping cart, alerted me to this completely free shopping cart option that is compatible with both PayPal and Google Checkout. No registration or installation, “it has been successfully tested on humans”. :) If you need a shopping cart for your website, it strikes me that you may as well have one with a sense of humor! Price is definitely good too.

Thousands of hyphens perish as English marches on
The headline made me laugh (there’s a good lesson in itself on headline writing), but I’m only listing this so you can keep up-to-date (does that need hyphens now?) on the latest in correct English grammar, because, according to the article, “People are not confident about using hyphens anymore, they’re not really sure what they are for.” Apparently, there are 16,000 hyphenation changes in the latest edition of the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. And, I certainly shan’t mourn their passing. :)

Tips for marketing your affiliate business
“Being a work-at-home business entrepreneur is not as easy as it first appears.” (They don’t say?) Don’t get me wrong, it is not that difficult either. As the saying goes, ‘anything is easy if you know how’. The BIG secret is learning ‘how to market’ on the Internet. Basics, but good reminders.

Tell People to “Click Here” to Increase Click Rates
Another piece of basic and, some would say, obvious, information, but this is the stuff we tend to forget right? Interestingly, the phrase “Click to continue” produced a clickthrough rate of more than 8%.

The Joint Venture Giveaway Directory
Get a free ebook, JV Giveaway Guide: everything you need to know to participate in giveaway events. Well worth looking at, as the “unannounced bonus” is another ebook, “The Top 10 Mistakes Everyone Makes In Internet Marketing - and how you can avoid every single one of them!”

Where do you get all those cool crazy hot fresh new links from?
Essentially, populair.eu is a tidy list of those oh so trendy social bookmarking services, blogs, search and news sources. It’s also a great repository of 16 x 16 icons for all of these Web 2.0 sites you can use to litter your pages.

Where To Find Fresh Blogs and How To Get Your Blog Discovered
“Thinking about how you find blogs could get you more readers.” The same tactics are also good for getting links and traffic to your own blogs.

30+ Mailing List Services
Regular readers will know that I do not recommend anyone other than AWeber - from several year’s experience of using their service. However, I accept that sometimes you need alternatives. Mashable list more than 30 of them and their readers are adding more in the comments.

One caution: they list Zookoda (which is now owned by PayPerPost) Zookoda is a brilliant idea, with a fantastic set of features. It just lacks one thing: it does NOT deliver emails. I’ve given them a chance, I’ve made sure that the SPF records for my domains state that emails in my name, sent by them are legit, but still absolutely NONE, not one, of the emails sent to any of my test accounts ever arrive and the lack of traffic spikes or feedback when emails are purportedly sent out suggests that this is pretty general.

BlogRush, will it survive?
Whilst I don’t have the answer to Ades question, I’m still underimpressed.

In an email entitled “Shocking Changes At BlogRush”, John Reese this week let rip on the cheaters. Personally, I think the rest of us didn’t need to know and, he should have known that ANY site (sad to say, especially in the internet marketing area), was going to attract them in droves.

In the same email, Reese also says that, “We have future plans for further widget customization but we’re working on one “stage” of improvement at a time!” It remains to be seen if this is enough. Right now, I agree with Ades, “Widget should be customizable, when I say customizable it should be really customizable (like AdSense ads) and not just have different color widgets.”

And, if you want my really honest opinion, anyone who puts that ugly thing on their blogs now is making themselves look like a bit of a “newbie”.

Who Owns What?
Have you noticed that if you read anything about “happenings” online, every other headline seems to start with “Google did this …”, or “Google bought that …” See this list and you won’t wonder why any more!

The Ten Top Time Wasters
I’ll admit that I do particularly badly on points 3, 4, 7, 8 and 10! :-)
