It took me 7 years of begging to get a broadband internet connection where I live. The speed has improved greatly since it was first installed, but it still only reaches 816Kbps. This, I was told, is because it has to come up hill (well, at least a long way from the telephone exchange.)
There is not a lot I can do, apart from move to “civilisation”, which would bring it’s own problems, so I’m content that is infinitely better than the supposed 56K analog connection that often crawled at 14K.
But if you do live in some “civilized” part of the planet, undoubtedly, you can do something about it if your connection is not performing, either by demanding a bit of service for your money, or simply by taking your custom elsewhere. And you should check and take any necessary action, because every second you spend waiting for pages, etc., to download adds up and that becomes time you could have spent earning money …
