Yet again. I’m sick to death of people who think they have the right to cause me additional work either moderating or deleting them.
There have been various articles recently mentioning that captcha’s can be read/broken by automated software and may become useless. Well, I wonder if this is now happening, because over the last few days I’ve had a sudden burst of spam comments splattered around various blogs, including ones with this annoying verification system on them.
Something particularly strange is that on two different blogs (self-hosted, but using Blogger’s API), the spam comments seemingly CANNOT be deleted. That is, I delete them. I go back to the blog page, I reload the page even and the spam comments are still there. I go through the motions of deleting them again - obviously the comment was NOT deleted because it is still there available for deletion and allows me to go through the motions of deleting them again - I go back to the relevant page, I even reload the page and these spam comments are still there. I’ve repeated that sequence up to TEN times. Either Blogger does not work (which would be no surprise) or comment spammers have discovered a way to make their spam comments permanent and non-deletable.
As a result, on one blog, I had to remove the comment facility entirely. On all others, I am in process of turning on comment moderation.
What does that mean to you? I encourage you to leave GENUINE comments, but they are not going to show up right away. Sorry, but until there is a better way of dealing with this, I have no choice.
And, because I am dealing with some very serious health and personal issues at the moment, it may take a week or more before I am able to get around to checking and moderating comments.
