BidVertiser launched BidVertiser Ads for Feeds (in Public Beta) at the start of the year, which is a great idea, in theory (for those who can’t yet / don’t qualify to use Adsense for feeds) and it works with Feedburner, just as described here.
Now I will be the first to admit that my “tests” have been far from scientific, but unfortunately, my findings are that Bidvertiser is just not ready, in practice.
Some of my blogs have not bad numbers of feed subscribers and reasonable, if not earth shattering earnings from other ads on site, so I’ve tested this on my feeds to see how it might perform. Well, maybe “plonked” would be a more accurate descriptive word for the “process” I used, rather than “tested”.
Anyway, sadly, I don’t think Bidvertiser has the advertisers to make this viable for publishers yet, as the ads were not really relevant (even on well defined posts) or were for gambling and the consequent earnings (44 cents) at the end of a couple of weeks testing, gives me only one reaction. I’m removing them.
I’ll consider putting them back again when they get more and better targeted advertisers for a broader range of topics. For advertisers, of course, this actually represents “an opportunity”, because unless you are advertising a casino, I reckon your ad will have very little (if any) competition for those slots.
It’s sad, because the big networks need healthy competition, or they’ll get too complacent, yet smaller ones have a hard time of attracting the right advertisers so that it’s worth publishers’ while to provide advertisers with a new venue.
Whilst I have no idea if chicken goes before egg, or vice-versa, you could …
